Sondra Lazarowitz
Sondra and her graduate students are researching movement proteins produced by the DNA of squash leaf curl virus (SqLCV) and cabbage leaf curl virus (CLCV.) They hope to determine how these movement proteins coordinate virus replication and movement of the viral genome within and between plant cells, and fundamentally, how they alter the cell structure to accomplish this. The research Sondra and her students conduct will provide insight into the specific roles of these proteins in virus infection and will lead to the development of strategies for engineering broad-based resistance against this important group of plant pathogens.
