Sequencing and annotation of P. syringae pv. syringae B728a was achieved in May, 2005 through the combined efforts of Dr. Steve Lindow at University of California at Berkeley and the Department of Energy Joint Genome Insitute (DOE-JGI). P. syringae pv syringae was selected for sequencing in order to:

  • expand understanding of the coordinate gene expression involved in pathogen responses to plant genotypic differences
  • facilitate identification and characterization of genes expressed only in planta
  • enhance exploitation of the ice nucleation capabilities of this bacterium
